Kangkungan 2001!
The raging political controversies engulfing the country today have exposed the true colors of a lot of our elected officials. Many of them were a disappointment to the very people who put them in office in the hope that they will stand not only for what is right but also for what is moral and honorable. Enrile, Ople, Tatad, and Honasan, all remnants of the martial law regime defending their pal Erap on the current political quagmire that he is in is quite understandable for their moral fibers and political views are distorted. But that cannot be said of Butz nad Tessie Aquino, Miriam Defensor-Santiago and John Osmena just to name a few, where once upon a time in their lives fought for what is right and just for this country and that was a long time ago and in another era! Ninoy must be turning in his grave knowing that his siblings are now espousing the opposite of the principles that he died fighting for! Butz, the authentic EDSA hero failed this time to heed the call of the people while the maka-TAO, Tessie who won in the 1998 elections with the battle cry "Bunsong Kapatid ni Ninoy" showed that the only people that she knows are the "TAOs" etched in our currency. The same can be said of JohnO., survivor of the PLaza Miranda bombing, Balatos notwithstanding. As for Miriam, from being one of the of the harshest critics of the President has now metamorphosed into his staunchest defender following the appointments of her husband and siblings into various government positions. Nakakahiya O Walanghiya!? The years have not been kind to them, their principles and judgmnets compromised. Truly, Money and Power Corrupts and t hey will soon find themselves in the Kangkungan! |
